Xavier Social Justice Network

The Xavier Social Justice Network is a passionate community dedicated to promoting equality, inclusivity, and social change within and beyond the school community. We are a diverse group of individuals united by our commitment to empowering one another and fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. Our members come from various backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives that enrich our collective mission. Driven by the principles of Ignatian spirituality, we emphasize the importance of social justice as a pathway to personal growth and reflection. We believe in the power of dialogue and collaboration, engaging with the wider community to support local initiatives and provide direct service to those in need.
Together, we aim to create a platform where every voice is valued and heard, championing the belief that meaningful change begins with compassionate action. Join us as we strive to stand in solidarity with those on the margins and work towards building a more just and inclusive world for all.

At the Xavier Social Justice Network, our actions are deeply rooted in the principles of Ignatian spirituality, guiding us to embody justice in our actions. We serve as a vital link between individuals and social service organisations aligned with our mission to promote equity and justice in the community. By connecting people with these organisations, we facilitate meaningful volunteer opportunities that empower individuals to actively participate in social change. Our commitment to building these partnerships not only enhances access to essential resources and services but also cultivates a collaborative environment where everyone can contribute to building a more just society.

To make it even easier to get involved, we invite our community to explore the Social Justice Connect Hub—a central platform for discovering opportunities, connecting with others, and accessing social justice resources. Visit the Social Justice Connect Hub to learn more and act.

Our Friends of the Network play an integral role in supporting our mission. While not everyone may have the time to volunteer, there are countless ways to engage and make an impact. Friends can help foster awareness, share resources, and advocate for social justice initiatives. As a Friend of the Network, you remain an important part of our community, receiving updates on our activities and opportunities to get involved, be it through events, discussions, or spreading the word about our work. Your support amplifies our collective efforts and strengthens our pursuit of equity and justice.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer with the Xavier Social Justice Network, we welcome your enthusiasm! The first step is to register through our Social Justice Connect Hub, where you can browse available volunteering roles and submit your application online. Once we receive your application, we will arrange a time for you to chat with our network coordinators.

This conversation will provide an opportunity to learn more about our mission and the values we uphold, and to discover the various volunteer roles available. Together, we can deepen our commitment to social justice and create impactful change within the community.

Advocacy Events

The Network aims to change the structures that keep people in poverty and social isolation, guided by our Ignatian values of discernment, justice, and a commitment to the common good. To achieve this, the network members organises several advocacy events each year to raise awareness of important social justice issues and challenge our understanding of them. This includes the annual Network Dinner and the "Dare to Be Different" Forum, which is a key advocacy event.

These advocacy events always feature a call to action and strive to deepen participants’ understanding of the systemic issues and thought patterns that create injustice.

The phrase “Magis on the margins” reflects our dedication to doing the most comprehensive and meaningful good for those who are marginalized and in greatest need. Addressing these challenging issues requires courage, and in line with our Ignatian values, we prioritize confronting the difficult issues on the margins.

Dare to Be Different Forums

The Xavier Dare to Be Different Forum is an annual event dedicated to fostering awareness and advocacy for important social justice issues. Each year, the forum explores a specific theme that shines a light on marginalized voices and experiences, encouraging meaningful dialogue and courageous storytelling. Rooted in Xavier’s Jesuit values, the forum brings together thought leaders and community advocates to share their insights and experiences. Through these discussions, participants are inspired to reflect on the challenges faced by those who are often overlooked and to consider their role in promoting justice and inclusion in society.
