Xavier College is delighted to announce the appointment of Patrick Sanders as our new Director of Teaching and Learning (7-12), commencing January 2027.
Patrick brings extensive educational experience including at Scotch College, Brighton Grammar and more recently at Haileybury. At Brighton Grammar, Patrick was instrumental over a 6 year period in leading the improvement in academic performance in his role as Director of Curriculum and Assessment (ELC - VCE). At the conclusion of his time, Brighton Grammar achieved the highest academic results in its history.
At Haileybury, in his role as Head of Teaching & Learning (Senior School), Patrick currently oversees the learning of 2000 students across 5 campuses.
Throughout his career, Patrick has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving student outcomes, supporting teachers through high-quality professional learning, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. Patrick is highly skilled in data analytics and assisting teachers to be equipped with the information they need to support strong classroom practice and student learning.
Patrick is an exceptional classroom teacher and is the author of VCE Chemistry texts. He has a Bachelor of Science, Master of Teaching and a Master of Education from the University of Melbourne.
Patrick brings a collaborative, evidence-informed approach to executive leadership and is an active participant in the co-curricular and spiritual life of a school. Patrick has a strong alignment with the values of Xavier College and a focus on excellence in boys’ education.
In this role, Patrick will provide strategic leadership across teaching and learning, working closely with our staff, students, and broader community to strengthen curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and professional practice. His experience and expertise will be a valuable addition to our Executive Team as we continue to build on our existing strengths and pursue our vision for excellence in teaching and learning.
