Xavier College 1st XI took on Carey Baptist Grammar 1st XI in the Final Round of the APS Soccer Competition. Xavier only needed to win or draw to secure its 10th APS Soccer Premiership, while Carey needed to win to claim the Premiership.
After a tight first half, the match sprung to life with Xavier taking a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute; Luca Perna’s shot on goal squeezed underneath the Carey goalkeeper. Xavier thought they had a second goal not long after, however, Harry Shillington’s goal was adjudged to be offside by the assistant referee.
Xavier would hold off a spirited late charge from Carey Grammar to run out 1-0 victors and claim the premiership, with Carey having a shot cleared off the line and a penalty chance waived away by the referee. The squad was led admirably this season by Captain Luka Suric and Vice-Captain Ben Davine.
We would like to wish the outgoing Year 12s all the best in their future soccer endeavours. I hope this year provides you with fond memories of your time at Xavier College
